  • Ray Mckinley And The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Ray McKinley was born on June 18th 1910 in Fort Worth,Texas. He played drums and Glenn Miller trombone for The Dorsey Brothers in th 1930s. Then Ray became co-leader of the Will Bradley Band . Ray played from 1943 to 1945 with Glenn Miller¡Çs Army Air Forces Band. In 1956 he accepted an appointment from Helen Miller, Glenn¡Çs widow, with whom he had remained on very friendly terms, to take over the Miller Band. So Glenn¡Çs complete musical library came out of storage, and on April 6th 1956 McKinley and the revived Glenn Miller Orchestra played their first engagement.¡É Ray McKinley at the head of of the current Glenn Miller Band is one of the most natural courses of events dancebandom could and should take. For when the Miller AAF Band suddenly lost its leader, Ray McKinley took over - not in rank perhaps, but in spirit, not a soldier with a commission, but one with a mission- a mission to carry on the music, the spirit and the tradition of a very dear friend.
