  • Rex Stewart And The Ellington Alumni All Stars-Marian McPartland Trio

On the 3rd of July 1958 two of the worlds finest jazz combos were to take the stage at the Newport Jazz Festival in Freebody Park, Rhode Island. Although Duke Ellington was very much alive at the time of these recordings it was cornetist Rex Stewart who was to lead this band formed of alumni from his orchestra including the Duke¡Çs closest associate Billy Strayhorn. Also to make the stage that day was the Marian McPartland Trio featuring Milt Hinton on bass and Ed Shaughnessy on drums with Gerry Mulligan guesting on the final two tracks. This is your chance to re-live a day never to be repeated so long ago.
